STĀN
Self published by Christian Belgaux and Jack Pam in Fremantle, Western Australia, 2015
Hand stitched, 80 pages + foldout, printed in Western Australia
Essay by Erika Fatland
Edition of 200
STĀN accompanied an exhibition of the same name at PSAS, Fremantle, Western Australia, 17 - 24 October 2015, curated by Jack Pam.
STĀN is the Persian word for country and stands for an area loosely defined as 'Greater Iran' - encompassing Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan as well as Iran. The work developed by Christian Belgaux has been produced through continual travel to Central and South Asia in the past decade and represents a body of work distinct in its honest ambition driven by discovery and voyeurism rather than motive or assignment. These photographic images are produced in a region where we rarely hear of the everyday occurrence or the poetic nuances of daily life. STĀN transports us to new worlds full of beauty, fascination and intrigue on the edges of global focus.
Nominated to Australia Photobook of the year, 2015.
